The Fulwood Post hopes to bring the festive Christmas spirit to S10 this year by donating gifts and Christmas cards to residents in care homes and help tackle loneliness.

There are 20 care homes and care services in S10 and according to Age UK there are 1.4m chronically lonely older people in England.

Loneliness has been linked to a wide variety of mental health problems, including: Depression, sleep problems, impaired cognitive health, heightened vascular resistance, hypertension and psychological stress.

We want to help care home residents feel less lonely this festive season, and we need your help!

We are collecting handmade and shop bought Christmas cards, drawings and gifts for care homes in the Sheffield S10 postcode. We are collaborating with The Porterbook and Darwin House care homes and are currently collecting donations for 43 residents. However, our email is open if you would like to nominate a truly deserving member of the community.

The deadline for giving donations is 13 December 2019. To donate, please use our collection box situated in 9 Mappin Street, Sheffield S1 4DT, alternatively contact us to make other arrangements.

If you would like to get involved, please write or make a Christmas card for someone who is spending their holidays in a care home. Include seasonal greetings and wishes, Christmas jokes, stories, or anecdotes to make the cards more interesting but please leave any envelopes unsealed.

You may also wish to donate any of the following:
