Hundreds of Sheffield residents will hike a night-time half marathon through the Peak District, raising money for local charities.

The annual Spider Walk hike returns Thursday 7 November.

Participants will set out from the Sheffield Student Union and will be greeted by live music and free food as they reach Whirlow Hall Farm, the half-way point.

The hike is organised by student-led Sheffield RAG, who raised more than £70,000 for local charities last year. This year they will be raising money for Whirlow Hill Farm, Sheffield Volunteering, Irise and one more charity being voted for on their Facebook page.

Chloe Quinn, 20, chair of Sheffield RAG said: “I definitely recommend it – I wouldn’t be walking 13 miles every year if I didn’t think it was fun!

“It’s a really nice walk, especially the first half, walking through Endcliffe Park and seeing Sheffield at night, in a safe way”

“There will be loads of socialising. This year we’re changing it up a bit – we’ll have stewards who lead the participants in groups of thirty through the route so that you can go at your own pace, socialise and not worry about directions.”

Tickets for the event are £8 and include food, entry to the live music event, a hi-vis jacket, sparklers and a map . Participants must also raise at least £35 in sponsorship. Up to 250 people are expected to take part.
